Coffee Carts

These micro-businesses are designed to provide job skills training and on-the-job experience for high school students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Just as importantly, this program promotes inclusion and integration of an often isolated and excluded population.

Our coffee carts foster friendships, break down social barriers, and provide the dignity, pride, and empowerment of having a job. Bringing students with and without intellectual disabilities together helps to end bullying, reduces stigma, and builds meaningful friendships.

Socializing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.

Young people are equipped with tools and training to create a climate of acceptance in school and beyond. As a result, students with disabilities feel welcome and are routinely included in, and feel a part of, all activities, opportunities, and functions.

It’s vitally important to encourage all students of all abilities to be champions for inclusion.

There is something transformational about bringing together students with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities. Programs like our coffee carts have a proven impact on reducing bullying and helping people with disabilities live their best lives.
